IT’S NOT COOL IF YOU ARE SEEKING NEW EMPLOYMENT AND YOUR CURRENT EMPLOYER FINDS OUT…. MOST LIKELY IT WOULD THREATEN YOUR JOB SECURITY
Although we offer a Featured Jobseekers’ Section that gives Jobseekers a chance to better highlight themselves, we are also mindful that not all Jobseekers are unemployed. Persons who are employed, but job hunting for whatever reasons, i.e. a career change, seeking growth, new experiences, etc. can also highlight themselves, but do so discretely. Once an employer finds out you are job hunting they may see you in a different light, perhaps no longer trust you, or see you as not being loyal.
Here are some tips in keeping your job search discreet:
1. As a Featured Jobseeker, although we hide your contact information, we are suggesting that you remove your company’s identifying information from your resume. Rather than listing your company’s name and location, you can edit your resume to describe your current employer in general terms, such as: i.e. “Int’l IT Company, Jamaica.
2. Don’t search for jobs on company’s time – you never know who is watching or listening and it's not ethical.
3. Never use your Employers office equipment or supplies (stationary, phone, computer, fax, etc.) to contact prospective employers, type, or send out resumes – this will cause your integrity to be questioned and could lead to being fired. Bear in mind that a high percentage of Employers are able to monitor their employees’ computers.
Although these tips will not guarantee your current Employer from discovering you are job hunting, it may at least slow down the process of them finding out.
